Mekoryuk Bulk Fuel System Installation
Access to reliable energy is essential for the nearly 200 residents of Mekoryuk, an island community located in the Bering Sea. In 2005, AVEC sought to improve the village’s fuel storage and contracted STG to install three separate tank farms, including all piping, fuel dispensers, and appurtenances. Instead of procuring and barging expensive gravel fill to build the tank pads, STG dredged the local harbor to harvest sand and rock. To protect the immediate environment against fuel escape and ground contamination in the extremely unlikely event of a leak, STG constructed a containment area. The Mekoryuk fuel storage project required the installation of security fencing and lighting, and the creation of access roads. The three tank farms have a collective holding capacity of 93,500 gallons.
